Aspirin belongs to a group of medicines called antiplatelet agents that help prevent blood cells sticking together.

It can be used to help prevent further heart attacks and strokes in patients who have had a history of these conditions. It can also be used after bypass surgery.

It should not be used for pain relief.

Not to be taken by children aged less than 16 years.

Do not exceed the stated dose.

Do not store above 25°C, store in the original container and keep tightly closed.

These tablets must be dispersed in water before taking by mouth.

The advice of a doctor should be sought before commencing therapy for the first time.

The usual dose, for long term use, is 1 or 2 tablets once daily.

In some circumstances a higher dose may be appropriate, especially in the short term and up to 4 tablets a day may be used on the advice of the doctor.

Aspirin, Starch, Sodium Saccharin, Lactose, Citric Acid, Calcium Carbonate, Talc and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.

Patient Details

Medical Conditions

  • Current or history of ulcers in the stomach or intestine
  • Current or history of bleeding in the stomach or intestine or other types of bleeding such as bleeding from blood vessels in the brain
  • Blood clotting disorder (e.g. haemophilia or thrombocytopenia)
  • Gout or a history of it
  • Severe kidney or liver problems
  • Dehydration
  • Intolerance to some sugars
  • Known deficiency in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase
  • Nasal polyps associated with asthma
  • Asthma/other breathing difficulties
  • High blood pressure or heart disease

Medication

  • Methotrexate (e.g. for cancer or rheumatoid arthritis) in doses higher than 15mg per week
  • Other blood thinning medications
