How it works: The product combines paracetamol and codeine for pain relief. Paracetamol reduces prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord, alleviating pain and fever. Codeine is an opioid analgesic that blocks pain signals to the brain.

Important Information:

• Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing products.
• Do not exceed the stated dose and do not take every day for more than 3 days unless directed by your doctor.
• This medicine contains codeine, which can cause addiction if taken continuously for more than 3 days.
• If you need to use this product regularly, consult your doctor immediately.
• Do not take if you are sensitive to paracetamol, codeine, or any of the other listed ingredients.
• Consult your doctor before taking Co-Codamol 8mg/500mg if:
  • You are taking drugs prescribed for depression (MAOIs).
  • You are taking metoclopramide or domperidone (used to treat nausea and vomiting).
  • You are taking colestyramine (used to treat high cholesterol).
  • You have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • You are taking anti-coagulants (drugs to thin the blood e.g., warfarin) and need to take a painkiller daily over a long period. Occasional doses of Solpadeine Max are acceptable.
  • The tablets contain lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • If your headaches become persistent, see your doctor.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Do not give to children under 12 years of age.
• Some side effects associated with this medication include:
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Allergic reactions, such as skin rash
  • Dizziness or drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.
• If you experience any concerns or other effects from using Solpadeine Max, stop taking it and consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Adults (including the elderly):

• Take 1-2 tablets up to 4 times a day.
• This dose should not be repeated at intervals of less than 4 hours.
• Do not take more than 8 tablets (4 doses) in any 24-hour period.

Pediatric population:

Children aged 16-18 years:

• Take 1-2 tablets every 6 hours when necessary.
• Do not take more than 8 tablets in any 24-hour period.

Children aged 12 – 15 years:

• Take 1 tablet every 6 hours when necessary.
• Do not take more than 4 tablets in any 24-hour period.

Children aged less than 12 years:

• Codeine should not be used in children below the age of 12 years due to the risk of opioid toxicity.
• For oral administration only.

The duration of treatment should be limited to 3 days. If effective pain relief is not achieved within this time, patients or caregivers should seek advice from a physician.
